As you can tell by looking to your right my FeedBurner RSS stats have dropped in half and this is due to the Google Reader stats outage for Feedburner.

This isn’t the first time there has been a stats outage for Google Reader but I’m surprised it has happened again just 3 months later.

So if you noticed a drop in your stats don’t panic that’s why your numbers are lower.

I wonder why this happens? I’ve never noticed stats outages with other RSS readers. Has anyone ever heard of something official from Google on what has gone on?

I wonder why the Feedburner team don’t bother fixing these issues, and it’s pretty weird since Google owns the company….

I had made a post about this recently where I was just starting to get hit regularly about it.

Hate to whore up the comments section but only because it directly applies to the post will I. You can delete if needed. I wrote an elaborate post about this here:

    http://www.benjaminpatton.com/whats-up-with-feedburner-feed-count/

In short Google’s Official Response is:

“Specific subscriber stats from Google Feedfetcher were offline because this service was apparently out late with friends on Friday night, and well, it completely slept through Saturday. It appears to have rallied, however, and amid firm declarations of “I’m never doing that again”, Feedfetcher has started diligently reporting subscriber numbers to us, early this morning Pacific Time.”

This is a hot topic throughout the blogosphere as the problem is now widespread and common, instead of sporadic as it was when I wrote the post. This is a weekly occurrence for me now.

I can only repeat the guesses from other bloggers, of which my favorite is that Google is transferring the feeds to their own datacenters/servers and its going a bit rough.

Just like with page rank we may never know for certain, after all its free and at their leisure.
