Sunday Link Love v8

Sunday link love on a Monday you may ask? Well I had the post pretty much written but didn’t publish on Sunday because I knew I had to come in to work really early so I wanted to finish it up then. Anyway, I think what I’m going to do is publish my next link love post at about 10:00 AM on Sunday.

Ok let’s look at some of the posts I liked during the week:

The first one comes from a relative regular for the link love sessions - Brian wrote about how to generate leads to your new website and the thing I liked the most about this post is that he centered it around an actual website example. On this blog here I strive to post with examples as frequently as possible because general advice isn’t enough sometimes, so I’m glad to see Brian adheres to that philosophy in most of his posts as well.

The next link comes as a bit of a downer. The owner of the affiliate post has given up and decided to give away his blog after it only fetched $200 in a Sitepoint auction. He hasn’t announced a winner yet although it will be announced. So if you don’t have a blog go write a comment on his post as to why you should win it and you may have a chance to still get it. The post touches on several issues that highlight how difficult it is to maintain a blog and why many times it isn’t worth it. I personally really enjoy blogging and while I only made $205 last month I know that figure will continue to grow as long as I continue to write about topics that matter.

Our next post comes from a blogger I’ve been following for a while. Steven has a knack for writing posts that beg to be submitted to various social media sites such as digg and stumble upon. He put together a list of the ten icon sets for social media sites. So if you’re looking for a more unique look to your social media icons be sure to check out his post.

The next post comes from Paul the inspired money maker who wrote a guest post on Tyler Cruz’s blog which contains a lot of tips on beginner affiliate marketing strategies.

Finally, if you haven’t heard by now (and I’d be really surprised if you haven’t) the one man blog Bankaholic.com was sold for $15 million dollars on what many people are saying a relatively low level of traffic. However, Shane does a great job of piecing together elements from other bloggers that show why Bankaholic sold for $15 million.

Be sure to subscribe to my RSS feed this week as I continue to chronicle my journey as an internet marketer while outlining the ideas I’ve found to be successful. If you have a post that you would like to see featured on next week’s link love edition than please contact me. If it’s good I’ll mention it. :)

Sunday Link Love v6

Category: Weekly Wrap Ups

Today is the sixth session of my Sunday Link Love and it will be a short one. It’s a little shorter because it was another big wedding weekend where one of my old college roommates got married but finally it was the last one of the summer (this makes 4 for me!).

AskShane kicks this session off with a post about How to Rank Well in Yahoo. I like this conspiracy theory idea (and I use that term loosely) that Yahoo rankings are often times pre determined by paid search. I think it’s certainly possible. What do you think?

Another post comes from SuiteJ who writes about how to use Google Analytics to find hidden gems in keywords. This post reminded me to write a post about How to Improve your Website in the Eyes of Google. So if you haven’t read that one yet be sure to check it out.

This next post comes from Mr Javo who created a list of RSS directories and feed channels. I haven’t tried this yet, but it looks like another nice method for getting more people to read your content.

Lastly, Steven posed the question “Is self submission really that bad?” He is of course referring to submitting your own content to social networks. What do you think? I was the first to comment on his post so if you care to see my opinion or join in on the discussion head on over to the post.

Alright, going forward for this week I have a few really interesting posts lined up. I’m most excited about the post I’ve written about Stumble Upon, so if you haven’t subscribed to my RSS feed please do so now. I will be publishing the post sometime this week.

Sunday Link Love v5

Well here comes my 5th link love post on another busy weekend. I had another bachelor party yesterday and if you remember from my 3rd link love post I was recovering from a wedding. When this summer his over I’ll have been to 4 weddings for some of my closest friends. It has been a truly busy summer because I’ve been in nearly every wedding I attended so it seems like every weekend I’m doing something for a wedding.

In any case, let’s move onto the posts:

Over at Collin Lahay’s blog he outlines a strategy to build links through eBay. For those of you that haven’t read my story about I first started making money on eBay nearly 10 years ago. So it didn’t take me a lot of time to set up a blog and do my first post to test out his strategy. Check out my eBay blog post. I know this is an old blog post but I had it set up on an old link love draft post that I forgot to use! Either way this is a pretty slick idea.

side note: Make sure you click view source and add your link code into the post that way though otherwise it won’t work. He doesn’t mention that in his instructions.

Caroline Middlebrook writes about parking domains for further development. She covers a lot of topics about starting new sites, Google’s sandbox and more.

Rob Malon put together a post on how to improve bounce rates and time spent on your website. Some good tips there Rob.

And in a slightly unrelated post - AdesBlog wrote about a new feature with Google that indexes speech in YouTube videos. It even highlights where the word was used. That’s pretty nifty right?

Well that’s going to do it for me. In the upcoming week I’m going to provide an update on my mini site case study and more, so I highly recommend you subscribe to my RSS feed to read all about it.

Sunday Link Love v4

Category: Weekly Wrap Ups

With this latest installment of my Sunday Link Love posts I’m happy to say that I’ve consistently been at it for a month! I really enjoy doing these posts and can’t believe I didn’t start sooner! In any case, I’m doing it now and I don’t ever plan on stopping.

Big Ben Patton wrote an interesting post on his foray into site flipping. Your can check out part 1 and part 2. While I think with a little more time he could have made a lot more money on the flip I know that he was trying to do it in 24 hours. I sold one of my small forums back in February for $600 via DigitalPoint forums, I probably could have made more doing it on SitePoint and I’m certainly going to take that into consideration for future sales.

Normal Joe shares how to reach success through teamwork and having the right friends. Great post and video (lol at the Bubble Yum sponsor). He’s right though it’s so important to network with other bloggers and like minded individuals that will help you be successful.

The University Kid answers the question - Should you buy traffic for you blog? and I agree with his answer for the most part. However, I would rephrase his bold statement to say the following:

The only time you should buy traffic is when you can directly make money off those visitors. (If that is your intent).

I believe if you want to drive more traffic to your blog paying for that traffic is a good option. However, you aren’t going to make up that money. Your goal may be to convert those visitors into RSS subscribers.

Henry offered some tips on finding .edu blogs for backlinks on Google. Great tip both on the Google search method you posted and the FireFox plugin mentioned as well.

Mattaw over at MoneyBites posed the question, “Are you a dreamer or a doer?” This is good motivation for those of us that struggle with general laziness or a lack of drive to get things done.

Well that’s it for me. Be sure to subscribe to my RSS feed in order to learn some more tips on how to improve your chances for success online and in a post next week I’ll discuss some of the shady stuff happening on the blogging scene. You won’t want to miss it.

Sunday Link Love v3

Category: Weekly Wrap Ups
No Comments

Another week comes to a close and that means another new link love post to wrap up the week. This is v3 aka my 3rd consecutive week of Sunday Link Love posts. I’ve read some interesting things this week so check them out:

I found out that Google is now 10 years old (As of Sept. 7th) thanks to self made minds for the heads up. Personally I can’t believe it’s already been 10 years since they launched.

Kieron Donoghue received an email from Yahoo stating that their search marketing affiliate program was going to cut commissions by 90%! Yikes! He’s from the UK though so perhaps this hasn’t happened in America. Anyone promoting Yahoo search marketing in the states care to comment?

Steven Snell wrote a nice list of 7 reasons why Stumble Upon is a blogger’s best friend. Of all the social networking sites out there I think Stumble Upon is my favorite. In fact please add me to your friends list on SU because I’m looking to network with and Stumble more posts from people I actually know rather than just some random content I find on the web.

Ok, well this edition was a short one. I didn’t have a lot of time to prepare for v3 because of my friends wedding this weekend. I could have written something longer, but I prefer to write these link love posts only on Sunday’s so that I can incorporate posts that were written today on occasion (like the Stumble Upon list in this week’s v3 edition).

This week I have a few very interesting posts to share with you. The first will be very beneficial to people looking to save money on their domain expenses (and no it’s not just about using promo codes. It’s much more in depth than that). Subscribe to my feed so you don’t miss it!

Sunday Link Love v2

Category: Weekly Wrap Ups
2 Comments

This marks my second weekly link love wrap and I have several more great posts that I recommend you check out:

The first one on my list is written by my friend and blog designer Hyder. He gives 10 reasons why you shouldn’t be blogging about blogging. While I think he is a little harsh I do think he has a point. If you don’t have any experience or success online prior to starting your blog about blogging I’d highly recommend you rethink your strategy. There are plenty of other areas where you can get your feet wet in the world of blogging.

The next one up is on Shoemoney’s blog and while I will try not to ever link to the big bloggers (odds are you already read them) this is a guest post written by Harrison Gevirtz. He’s a 16 year old affiliate marketer that makes a lot of money through affiliate marketing. In this post he describes ways to optimize PPC campaigns. I personally haven’t tried PPC / Affiliate marketing campaigns but when I do I’ll make sure I remember the tips he’s described here.

Martin Reed had some great ideas on ways to add depth to your online community. I agree with what he’s had to say that if you’re competing against other communities and only have a forum to offer it’s going to be harder to differentiate your community from the thousands of others.

Mr Javo discusses the importance of masking your affiliate links. I’ve been using this same method for nearly a year. John Chow was the first person that I ever saw post about it actually and perhaps that is where Mr Javo found it as well - Either way I highly recommend you take some steps to mask your affiliate links as well because you could be losing out on a lot of money.

Well that wraps up another week for me here. As I asked last time during my Sunday Link Love v1 - if you have a great post that you’d like me to share with my readers please contact me and you just may see it here next week. (No one took advantage of this last week but perhaps someone will this time…)

Sunday Link Love v1

Category: Weekly Wrap Ups

This marks the first of my weekly Sunday link love wrap up posts. I know this type of post has been done before, but I wanted to not only provide an opportunity to link out to my fellow bloggers but also to give a chance for my readers to see what I’m looking at during the week.

First up my buddy Alan over at Affiliate Confession wrote an intriguing post about the harsh reality of your blog’s unlikely profitability. It’s the 7th post in his series and I agree with Alan’s philosophy. “The harsh reality is that if you got into blogging just to make money, you probably won’t.”

Brian from Start Breaking Free wrote a guest post on life hack about 8 essential skills they didn’t teach you in school. It’s funny how many hoops the school system makes you jump through when you rarely use the skills they “teach.” (I know this ones past a week ago but I’m behind on my RSS reader :) )

Jason Boom discusses the future of social media sites and networks. I like some points he made; however, I don’t think that we’ll ever end up with just one large social networking site because part of what these users like is “their” community. In other words, I know many people that love myspace but hate facebook and others that like the opposite. People will always like a community that fits their needs and I just don’t believe that time will come.

Jim over at thenetfool offers some great ideas on how to make a killer link bait page.

Sly put together a list of 30 tips for exploding your site traffic. The best part about the list is that he links to other bloggers that illustrate the points he’s made in his list. Great idea!

Whew - well that wraps up the week for me. If you have a great post that you’d like me to share with my readers next week please contact me and you just may see it here next week.

I have a lot more exciting posts coming so make sure you subscribe to my RSS feed to see what’s in store.

If you enjoyed this post, make sure you subscribe to my RSS feed!
